CATS the Musical Movie

coriopsis I'm a big fan of CATS the musical (it was my main fandom at one point), so I'm very excited about the upcoming movie! I will definitely be going to see it next year.
So its been confirmed that Ian McKellen is going to be Gus the Theatre cat. I was sure he'd be Old Deuteronomy, but Gus is great too. And probably the only other option for someone his age. My only concern is if he can do the GrowlTiger part. I'm sure they can get another actor to play younger!Ian McKellen as GrowlTiger. I just hope they don't cut the song, like the current video did.
Idris Elba will be the "evil" Macavity. ~Macavity Macavity, there's no one like Macavity, there never was a cat of such deceitfulness and suavity~ That makes total sense. If you're going to turn a man named sexiest man alive into a cat, it had to be one of the two canonically sexy ones. So either Macavity or the Rum Tum Tugger and I'd rather have him be Macavity than see him do an Elvis impersonation, thank you.
Speaking of Tugger! He's going to be played by Jason Derulo. I couldn't think of any of his songs off hand, so I youtubed him. I think he could do a very good job updating Tugger. Being an Elvis impersonator isn't exactly cool and Tugger's supposed to be the epitome of cool.
Judi Dench has been cast as Deuteronomy (the role I thought Ian McKellen was a shoe-in for) and that was a surprise. Not bad, the women in CATS are called queens, so its only right that one of them rule, right? ;) It does throw a kink (not that kind!) into the fanon theory that Old Deuteronomy and Grizabella are the parents of several of the other cats (usually Munkustrap, Tugger, and Macavity) but that's ok.
Finally, Taylor Swift is slated to be either Demeter or Bombalurina. Really that's the biggest surprise for me. I would have bet money that she'd be Jemima, the cat who sings "Memory" with Grizabella.
In conclusion, I am very excited!
